Why Taking Engagement Photos with Your Wedding Photographer is Important

TIP: Choose the wedding collection that has an engagement session...

One minute you're taking a walk in the park and the next, he's down on his knee popping the question. Things instantly start moving at a rapid pace. You’re in the midst of planning the timeline, choosing your vendors, and deciding on decor.

You find your photographer and look at the collections and go for the slightly cheaper option because it doesn't have an engagement shoot. The reasons can be endless - you don't like photos, you don't have time for photos, you aren't sending out a save the date anyways...BUT there are other reasons to get those photos taken.

What are they, you ask? Keep reading!

  1. It allows you to get to know each other as photographer and client. Listen, I’m a people person, and if I meet you on your wedding day, we’re still going to be besties in a matter of minutes. BUT, hear me out, if you get engagement photos done with your wedding photographer, this will make your actual wedding day so much smoother because then there’s no weird like “oh, hey! So nice to finally meet you! Thanks for having me take photos of one of the most important days of your life.” This time will allow your photographer to get your vibe of you and your boo. If you’re shy, if you have a “side,” if you’re super playful, if you’re not that into PDA, or (my favorite) if you’re SUPER into PDA! This Engagement session lets your photographer see how you guys react in front of the camera so they can use that to your advantage on your wedding day. They will be able to capture YOU and your personality as a couple seamlessly on the wedding day without having to figure it out on the spot.
  2. It makes you feel more comfortable in front of the camera. Ever hear the phrase, “Practice makes perfect”? OF COURSE you have. It seems weird to “practice” taking photos, but for real. Being in front of the camera more makes you more comfortable with the process of taking photos. PLUS when a photographer (me) gives you a prompt that you’ve heard of (like “kiss with your teeth” - yes, for real) you’ll know what I mean and you’ll be able to be more fun with it instead of me having to give the example/explanation first. You’ll just fall into the groove so smoothly.
  3. You get engagement photos….? LOL this sounds like a DUH statement. But for real. This is one of the sweetest, biggest, most exciting times of your life! Take the photos! Capture the memories! You will want these photos down the road. Plus, if you ARE sending out Save the Dates, you can use them for that too. Win-win-win.
